Upcycling Project

Our clients were Scanteak & Singapore Airlines. Focused on conscious sustainability, we had to work with upcycled materials provided by them to design household products that infuse Singapore’s heritage and cultural elements.

Our group decided on a common theme: household statement pieces; this meant that we worked on our own individual products, but when put together, it becomes a series of household statement pieces.
My piece was D-Vider; a display wall that serves as a divider too.
Users can place it in their living rooms, guest areas, wherever they wanted, and it would serve as a decoration statement piece, stealing attention from all the guests.
Alternatively, they could use it as a divider of space, allowing users to create personal zones.
It was mainly inspired by the Peranakan Patterns & Modularity of HDB flats.

Collaborating with local brands Scanteak (teak furniture) & Flo (aromatherapy), we were tasked to design an object that will tap on aromatherapy to enhance the mental wellbeing of mothers. We also were limited to the upcycled materials collected by Brickland/CCKTC and Scanteak. From which we learn alot about sustainability, having to work within the tight material constraints and figuring out how we could break down the old furniture and piece it together to become an aromatherapy piece.
